Good afternoon Parents and Carers,

Firstly, we hope all families are safe and well prepared for the now imminent impact of Cyclone Alfred.

Following advice from the Premier, the College will be closed to all students, families and staff on Thursday and Friday (6–7 March).

Cancellation of Activities and Campus Access

Most after school activities have been cancelled this afternoon. Parents have been advised through the usual channels (the WestMAC App) and are requested to organise usual transport arrangements or alternative pick-up for their students. TAS and Junior TAS sport games this Saturday 8 March have also been cancelled.

We are currently planning to reopen on Monday; however, this will be confirmed following a site inspection, advice from the government, and consideration for the safety of our community, an update will be sent by 4pm Sunday. The safety of our students, families and staff remains our highest priority.

Community Support

We acknowledge this may be a challenging time for many in our community and can be especially unsettling for our young people. If your child requires support, please do not hesitate to contact the College so appropriate support can be provided.

To help your family prepare and remain safe over the coming days, we have included links to several local and state resources:

Learning Resources

Students from Middle and Senior School will receive some optional learning resources via their student email. This work is not compulsory but is available for families who wish to engage in learning activities while at home over the weekend.

During the school closure, Junior School students may complete the following as they are able:

- complete homework tasks for the week
- read from home readers, Library books or home collections
- access online learning platforms available via year level NEST pages (login details included in Student Diary)
- complete activities in booklets sent home from school on Wednesday
- Years 3-6 students can complete activities in their Student Diary up to and including Week 5
- Years 3-6 students can revise learning from this term on NEST including key vocabulary

Parents may find the story helpful to explain what is happening to younger children. This link also contains information and resources to help children and families build emotional resilience to cope with and recover from natural disasters.

Middle and Senior School students will be able to:

- continue to work on class work and assessment
- access materials on NEST if able to do so
- review past work, and
- preview future work
- Where possible, Senior School students will also have access to Atomi for additional study materials.

Further communication

Unless urgent information comes to hand, there will be no update provided until 4pm Sunday.

Thank you for your patience and ongoing support. Please stay safe, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back once conditions allow.

Kind regards,
Andrew Peach
Principal
